SPOTA GETS COURT ORDER TO SEAL MELIUS BUSINESS DISPUTE. The Suffolk County district attorney sought and was granted an order last week that sealed a civil case involving shooting victim Gary Melius and control of a company that makes ignition locking devices meant to stop drunken drivers.

RIVERA RESCUES, RENOVATES NY CHURCH. For years, retired New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera had been crediting God for his skills on the field, where he tallied a record 652 saves before retiring last season. Now his foundation has poured about $3 million into restoring a 107-year-old church in New Rochelle.

TWO MEN, 19, KILLED IN ROSLYN HEIGHTS CRASH. Two 19-year-old Mineola men were killed early Wednesday when their car struck a curb and a tree in the backyard of a Roslyn Heights house.

EX-LIRR WORKER GETS 37 MONTHS FOR DISABILITY FRAUD. Former Long Island Rail Road worker Fred Catalano, a maintenance foreman who was videotaped practicing jiujitsu after retiring on disability, was sentenced Wednesday to 37 months in prison for defrauding the government.

LIRR PENSION ERROR MAY COST WIDOW $26,707. The MTA is demanding that the widow of a retired LIRR train engineer who died in September repay nearly $27,000 in excess pension benefits the couple had received since 1995 because of an agency clerical error.

NASSAU RESIDENTS URGE CUOMO TO MOVE FORWARD. Nassau residents told Cuomo representatives Wednesday night they're glad the governor wants to make long-overdue repairs to the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, which failed during superstorm Sandy, but said they were concerned with the project's pace.

REBUILT WALKWAYS WILL BE SET BY SUMMER. The rebuilt dunes in Long Beach's east and west ends will be passable for beachgoers this summer, say city officials who have awarded a contract for new dune walk-overs.

RESIDENTS SLAM BAY SHORE METER PLAN. Residents in the Town of Islip spoke up at a public hearing this week, calling the town's plan for parking meters in Bay Shore a "death knell" to the commercial progress the hamlet has made over the past two decades.

BABYLON MOVES TO ADDRESS CONCERNS IN STATE AUDIT. Babylon Town, the subject of a state audit last year that faulted its leadership for financial mismanagement, says it has moved to close operating deficits in its general fund and revise estimates of future revenue as part of an effort to adopt most of the recommendations for change made by the New York State comptroller.
