  • Mangano also announced this morning, according to News12, that all Nassau County parks will close today at 3 p.m.

Traffic and weather 

A light dusting of snow has already blanketed Long Island this morning, leading to several accidents and a slow morning commute. Avoid the following roadways:

One westbound lane of the Long Island Expressway in Queens near Exit 32 (Little Neck Pkwy) to the Cross Island Parkway remains closed due to an accident investigation. More on this here.

The snowfall is a precursor to what's to come. The National Weather Service is predicting that Long Island could see as much as 8 to 10 inches by Friday morning with the heaviest accumulations in eastern Suffolk. A blizzard warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday.

School closings: The West Hempstead and Glen Cove school districts cancelled classes Thursday. Farmingdale State College also cancelled afternoon and evening classes and activities for Thursday, and all classes for Friday.  Get the latest school closings information.
