Construction work on the Robert Moses Causeway near the Fire Island Inlet Bridge will shut down one southbound lane from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

The AirTrain at John F. Kennedy International Airport turns 10 this week. Exactly one decade ago today, Newsday published this story, detailing the experience of riding the 8.1-mile loop of elevated track for the first time as the system, which cost $1.9 billion to construct, opened to passengers on Dec. 17, 2003. Although the price of a gallon of gas has more than doubled in the past 10 years, the fare to ride the AirTrain -- $5 -- has remained the same.
